About My Blog’s Schedule

Posted on April 22, 2024

Yeah… I’m still here. Hypothetically.

Once again, I apologize for peacing out from my own blog for six weeks. But I’ve got a few things to share.

Firstly, I realize that my Sunday schedule has been doing me no favors. It’s always been an arbitrary deadline — just a way of keeping me accountable. The problem is that if I don’t have something ready by the end of the day on Sunday, I push my post back seven days… which is a great way to go two or three weeks without sharing anything.

So from now on, I’m just going to share things once they’re done. Another thing about Sundays is that it was a way for people to check in and see if there were any updates since I don’t have an automated update system.

Well, until now that is. I’ve finally set something up that I’ve been procrastinating on for a while: at the bottoms of my articles you’ll see a nifty little form to enter your email and subscribe to the blog.

Setting this up was a disturbing ordeal. Using a third party email marketing service (EMS) is generally recommended for sending emails en masse to prevent spam false positives and blacklisting. As such, for the last few weeks, I’ve been trying out an EMS, realizing it’s crap after a few days, and then moving on to the next one.

Far too many of them are just... friggin’ catastrophes to use; things don’t work properly and there’s often terrible documentation. But worst of all was how much I was forced to use bullshit WYSIWYG editors to create forms and emails instead of being allowed to use HTML and CSS like an adult. Things were looking so bleak that I considered setting up push notifications instead, but that became a whole other headache, so I went back to my EMS trial and error.

After trying out half a dozen of these things, I finally settled on ConvertKit. I’m still futzing around with email styling (HTML for an email is a bit different than for a webpage), but I think it will work out. ConvertKit integrates with RSS nicely and generally lets me do what I want. Maybe I’ll revisit push notifications... save that for next year I suppose.

Anyway, if you feel so inclined, go ahead and sign up. I won’t send you anything other than articles. Pinky promise!

That’s all for today; I’ll be back when I have something to talk about. For now, I need to close the accounts I made for all those godforsaken websites...

(Also, if you like my Ambassador clock, you can thank my girlfriend and 60BPM.)
